Hi everybody!

Hello everybody,

My name is Alicia and I’m a freshman majoring in journalism-news editorial. Even though journalism is my major, I haven’t figured out yet what specific area of journalism I would like to go into. I am actually really excited that we are doing this blog because I think it will help me practice writing. I’m taking this class because I needed to take an anthropology or sociology class for my major and also because I found anthropology very interesting. I took Anth 143(Biology of Human Behavior) last semester and I really enjoyed it because it was interesting to see the biological side of why humans act the way they do and the comparison between the behavior of animals and humans. I hope that this class will help open my eyes to see another part of the world that I have never learned about before.

I searched around for blogs relevant to our class and came upon Afarensis: Anthropology, Evolution, and Science. This blog is by a person with the username afarensis. He writes about interesting science news, book reviews, and his responses to articles, pictures, etc all relating to anthropology evolution, and science.  Another blog I found interesting was Busting Myths About Human Nature. This blog is by Agustin Fuentes and he writes posts proving why some myths about human nature are wrong. His writes about topics such as why sex is so complicated, if humans are naturally aggressive to why humans need intercourse or if inequality is natural. The final blog that I came across was Scientopia. This blog has posts from many bloggers. While looking around, I came upon the post "Exercise fuel: Is that a banana in your pocket or are you increasing your performance?" by scicurious. This blog talks about what food is good for you before running, after running, before workouts, after workouts, etc. He talks about how peanut butter, oatmeal, and especially bananas get a lot of praise as a workout food. He talks about how there are always bananas at the end of every race and people would just scarf them down. He goes into research and evidence of how bananas may not be that much better than just eating carbohydrates. I found this interesting because we always hear about the new best wonder food and without truly looking into it, buy all the products that have that wonder food in it.

  1. Hi Alicia! Scientopia is not a blog, but a network that hosts blogs. I think perhaps you are referring to Scicurious's blog, which is called "Neurotic Physiology."
